International road freight is one of the most manageable delivery methods: cargo travels from the sender’s warehouse to the recipient’s warehouse without transshipment, the route is tracked in real time, and a single party handles customs clearance throughout.
We have been organizing international road freight for over 10 years across two key routes — Turkey → Russia and China → Russia — and also operate across CIS countries and Europe. We handle the entire process: vehicle selection, customs clearance, insurance, and door-to-door delivery. You focus on your business — we move the cargo.

Our Main Routes: Turkey and China
WestComTrans specializes in two primary road freight routes. For each of them, we have established customs transit schemes, verified partners at border crossings, and clear delivery timeframes.
Road Freight from Turkey to Russia
Cargo from Turkey is delivered via two main schemes: the overland route through the Caucasus (Turkey → Georgia → Upper Lars border crossing → Russia) or an alternative route through Azerbaijan. The Black Sea ferry crossing (Samsun / Trabzon → Novorossiysk / Tuapse) is used for cargo that is difficult to transport via mountain roads or when Upper Lars is congested. WestComTrans handles export clearance on the Turkish side and import customs clearance in Russia.
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Delivery time | 10–18 days (depending on route and border crossing congestion) |
| Full truck load (FTL) cost | from $5,000–7,000 per truck |
| Main routes | Istanbul / Mersin → Sarpi (Georgia) → Upper Lars → Russia; alternative — via Azerbaijan; ferry Samsun / Trabzon → Novorossiysk |
| Typical cargo | Textiles, equipment, construction materials, food products, consumer goods |
Groupage shipments (LTL) are consolidated at a warehouse in Turkey: the client pays only for their space in the truck, not for the entire vehicle.
Road Freight from China to Russia
The China route is the highest-volume direction. We offer two delivery formats depending on budget and urgency:
| Format | Transit Time | FTL Cost | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard road delivery | 15–25 days | from $8,500–9,500 per truck | Route via Zabaykalsk / Manzhouli or via the Far East; transit through Kazakhstan — when border crossing conditions are favorable |
| TIR carnet transport | 13–17 days | from $10,500–11,500 per truck | Customs transit under the TIR Convention: cargo is not inspected at intermediate points — fewer delays at borders |
Important in 2026: the situation at border crossings between China, Kazakhstan, and Russia is unstable — during periods of heightened customs control or Chinese public holidays, transit times via Kazakh crossings can increase by 5–10 days. WestComTrans promptly redirects cargo to alternative routes (via Zabaykalsk or the Far East) and notifies clients in advance.
TIR (Carnet de Passage) — an international customs transit system under the TIR Convention of 1975. A vehicle operating under a TIR carnet passes through intermediate customs posts without breaking seals or undergoing a full inspection: the customs authority of each country accepts the carnet as a guarantee of duty payment. This reduces border waiting times and lowers the risk of delays.
For groupage cargo from China, we arrange consolidation at a warehouse in China — with weekly departures.
Comparison with other modes of transport from China (2026 data):
| Mode of Transport | Transit Time | Cost | When to Choose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road (standard) | 15–25 days | $$ | Balance of price and speed, door-to-door delivery |
| Road via TIR | 13–17 days | $$$ | Urgency + minimum border delays |
| Rail | 15–35 days | $$ | Large container shipments, no strict deadline |
| Sea (Far East ports) | 35–45 days | $ | High volume, maximum cost savings |
| Sea (Novorossiysk / St. Petersburg) | 45–60 days | $ | Western regions of Russia, non-urgent |
| Air | 3–5 days | $$$$ | Low weight, urgent or high-value delivery |
Advantages of International Road Freight
- Door-to-door delivery without transshipment. Cargo travels in a single vehicle from the sender’s warehouse to the recipient’s warehouse. Intermediate transshipments — where damage most commonly occurs — are eliminated.
- GPS monitoring 24/7. Every vehicle is equipped with telematics. Both you and your WestComTrans manager always know where the cargo is, without having to make requests or call the driver.
- Route flexibility. If a delay occurs on the main route — traffic, a closed border crossing, or adverse weather conditions — the driver promptly switches to an alternative route. Air and sea freight do not offer this option.
- Versatility by cargo type. Curtainsider, refrigerated truck, insulated van, flatbed for oversized loads — every cargo type gets the right vehicle without surcharges for “special requirements.”
- Predictable transit times. Unlike sea freight, where timelines can shift by 5–10 days due to port delays, road delivery runs on schedule. Deadlines are fixed in the contract.
- Single point of responsibility. WestComTrans is accountable for everything: transport, customs, insurance, and documentation. No need to coordinate three contractors or figure out who is responsible for a delay.
FTL and LTL: Which Format Suits Your Cargo
International road freight comes in two formats. The choice affects price, speed, and risk — let’s break it down honestly.
| Parameter | FTL (Full Truck Load) | LTL (Less than Truck Load) |
|---|---|---|
| Who pays for transport | One client — the entire truck | Several clients share the cost |
| Minimum volume | From 1 pallet (cost-effective from 10 t) | From 1 pallet / from 50 kg |
| Speed | Faster: travels without stops | Slightly slower: warehouse consolidation |
| Risk of damage | Minimal | Slightly higher (adjacent cargo) |
| When to choose | Large shipments, high-value goods, urgent delivery | Small shipments, budget savings |
WestComTrans works with both formats on the Turkey and China routes. If you are unsure which to choose — a manager will calculate both options and advise on what is more cost-effective for your cargo.
We transport the following goods:
Vehicle Types
We select the vehicle to match the cargo specifications — the client does not need to know the difference between trailer types themselves.
| Vehicle Type | Payload / Volume | Suitable Cargo |
|---|---|---|
| Curtainsider semi-trailer | up to 22 t / 82–96 m³ | Universal: pallets, boxes, general cargo |
| Refrigerated truck | up to 20 t / 82–92 m³ | Food products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics (−25°C…+25°C) |
| Insulated van | up to 20 t / 82–92 m³ | Temperature-sensitive cargo on short/medium routes |
| Road train / mega-trailer | up to 26 t / 96–120 m³ | High-volume light cargo, textiles, large-format goods |
| Flatbed / lowboy trailer | up to 40 t and above | Oversized cargo: machinery, equipment, metal structures |
| Container truck | 20–40 ft containers | Multimodal schemes: road + sea / road + rail |
How the Shipping Process Works
1. Request and cost calculation.
You provide the cargo specifications and route. The manager calculates the cost, recommends the optimal format (FTL / LTL, standard / TIR), and confirms the rate.
2. Vehicle and route selection.
We select the vehicle type to match your cargo, plan the route taking into account border crossings, seasonal restrictions, and current customs workload.
3. Document preparation.
We prepare the CMR, TIR Carnet (for TIR transport), packing list, invoice, and export declaration. We verify TN VED codes. We only request from the client what is required on their end.
4. Loading and dispatch control.
The driver collects the cargo at the sender’s warehouse, verifies it against the documents, and records the condition of the packaging. If needed, we arrange packing and palletizing.
5. Customs clearance at departure.
We open the customs transit procedure and handle export customs clearance in the country of departure.
6. Transportation with GPS monitoring.
The cargo moves along the route, and you receive notifications about key milestones: border crossing, arrival at customs, unloading. The dispatcher is available 24/7.
7. Customs clearance and handover to the recipient.
We file the import declaration in Russia, pay the customs duties (under the scheme agreed with the client), and deliver the cargo to the recipient’s warehouse.
Customs Clearance and Documentation
Customs is the primary risk point in international road freight. An error in the TN VED code or an incorrectly completed invoice can delay cargo by 3–7 days and result in fines. WestComTrans operates as a customs freight forwarder: we do not merely “assist with documents” — we handle customs clearance independently.
What WestComTrans prepares:
- CMR (international consignment note under the CMR Convention, Geneva, 1956)
- TIR Carnet (for shipments under the TIR system)
- Customs declaration (import and export)
- Selection and verification of TN VED codes
- Packing list
- ADR emergency information card (for hazardous goods)
- Transit permit documents for third countries
What the client needs to provide:
- Commercial invoice from the supplier
- Supply agreement (contract)
- Technical description of the goods (for TN VED code determination)
- Conformity / quality certificates (if applicable to your goods)
If documents from the supplier are incomplete or contain errors — we will advise on what to request and in what format. This is included in the service cost.
Why Choose WestComTrans
- 10+ years in international logistics. Over this time, routes have been refined, partners at border crossings have been vetted, and deep expertise in customs clearance across Russia, Turkey, and China has been built.
- Multimodality — not a slogan, but a real service. If road freight from China is not optimal for your cargo, we will propose a combination: road + sea, road + rail. One operator — the entire supply chain.
- In-house customs freight forwarder. We do not outsource customs clearance to a third-party company. Our specialists handle declaration filing directly — this speeds up clearance and reduces costs.
- Single-party accountability. No “that’s a question for the carrier” or “customs is not our area.” You work with one counterparty who is responsible for the entire route.
- No intermediaries. We do not resell orders to other freight forwarders. This allows us to keep prices below market rates and maintain quality control at every stage.
- Updates at every stage. You receive notifications at loading, border crossing, customs clearance, and warehouse arrival — with no need to call and check the status yourself.
If you have any questions about the international trucking process or would like to get advice, do not hesitate to contact us. We are ready to help you at every stage of your cargo delivery!

Ответы на частые вопросы
It depends on the route, cargo volume, and vehicle type. Reference rates for WestComTrans key routes: Turkey → Russia — from $5,000–7,000 per full truck load (transit time 10–18 days); China → Russia standard — from $8,500–9,500 (15–25 days); China → Russia via TIR — from $10,500–11,500 (13–17 days). For groupage shipments, the cost is calculated based on weight and volume. An exact quote is free of charge and available within 15 minutes of submitting a request.
TIR is an international customs transit system under the TIR Convention of 1975. A vehicle operating under a TIR Carnet passes through intermediate customs posts without breaking seals or undergoing a full inspection: the customs authority of each country accepts the carnet as a financial guarantee of duty payment. In 2026 conditions, when waiting times at certain China–Kazakhstan–Russia border crossings have increased, TIR is particularly relevant: cargo does not wait in the general inspection queue. TIR transport takes 13–17 days compared to 15–25 days for standard delivery. The cost is higher by $2,000–2,500, but for urgent or high-value cargo this is justified.
The client is required to provide a minimum: a commercial invoice from the supplier, a supply agreement, and a technical description of the goods for TN VED code determination. If conformity certificates are required for your goods — we will advise on which ones are needed. Everything else — the CMR, customs declarations, TIR Carnet, and packing list — is prepared by WestComTrans.
Yes, this is the LTL (groupage) format. Cargo from several clients is combined in a single vehicle — each client pays only for their own space. The minimum shipment is from 1 pallet / from 50 kg. We arrange consolidation at warehouses in China and Turkey. LTL delivery time may be 2–4 days longer than FTL due to the time required for shipment assembly.
It depends on volume, urgency, and budget. Sea freight via Far East ports — 35–45 days, via Novorossiysk — 45–60 days: inexpensive but slow. Rail — 15–35 days: well-suited for large container shipments but requires the right infrastructure. Road — 15–25 days standard or 13–17 days via TIR: cargo travels door-to-door without transshipment, optimal for medium and small volumes. If you are unsure — a WestComTrans manager will calculate all options for your specific cargo.
